FAQs

πŸ’Š THE BASICS: WHAT IS IT'S PILL TIME?

What is It's Pill Time?

It’s Pill Time is a medication reminder service that sends you a personalized text message every day when it’s time to take your medications. You reply YES to confirm you’ve taken them. We log it, track your streak, and alert your designated caregiver if you don’t respond.

No app to download. No device to buy. No Wi-Fi required. If your phone can send and receive text messages, you can use It’s Pill Time.

A phone alarm tells you to do something β€” but it doesn’t know if you did it. It’s Pill Time creates a two-way conversation. When you reply YES, your dose is logged and your streak is tracked. If you don’t reply, we follow up. If you still don’t respond, your emergency contact is automatically notified.

An alarm is a nudge. It’s Pill Time is accountability.

No. It’s Pill Time works through standard SMS text messaging, which means it works on any phone β€” smartphones, basic phones, and flip phones. You do not need to download anything, create an account on your phone, or have internet access. As long as your phone can send and receive texts, you’re all set.

It’s Pill Time was founded by Marcus D. Stevenson, a 19-year-old entrepreneur from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Marcus built the platform after watching a family member struggle to manage their daily medications consistently. He couldn’t find a solution that was truly simple, truly accessible, and truly built for the people who needed it most β€” so he built one himself.

It’s Pill Time is currently available to subscribers across the United States. We are headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and serve individuals, families, and healthcare organizations nationwide. International availability is planned for a future date.

No. It’s Pill Time is a reminder service only. We are not a medical provider, pharmacy, or emergency service. We do not provide medical advice, prescriptions, or clinical care. We simply remind you to take the medications your doctor has already prescribed. For any medical questions, please contact your doctor or pharmacist. For emergencies, call 911.

πŸ‘΄ FOR INDIVIDUALS & SENIORS

I'm not very good with technology. Can I still use this?

Absolutely β€” and this is exactly why we built It’s Pill Time the way we did. If you can receive a text message and type the word YES, you can use It’s Pill Time. There is nothing else to learn. No app, no login, no settings. You receive a text. You reply YES. That’s the whole thing.

If a family member is helping you sign up, the whole process takes less than 5 minutes online at itspilltime.com.

No problem. You can have multiple medications listed in your daily reminders, and you can set multiple reminder times each day β€” for example, one at 8 AM and another at 8 PM. Each reminder window includes the full list of medications due at that time. You simply reply YES to each one when you’ve taken those medications.

You choose. Most subscribers choose to receive reminders every day. But if you only take certain medications on specific days β€” for example, a once-weekly medication on Mondays β€” you can set your reminders to match. You tell us your schedule during sign-up, and we follow it exactly.

If you don’t reply within 15 minutes of your reminder, we send a gentle follow-up. If you still haven’t responded after 30 minutes, we send a second follow-up. If there is no response after 45 minutes, we automatically notify your designated emergency contact β€” the person you chose when you signed up.

If you’ve taken your medications but just forgot to reply, simply reply YES at any point and we’ll log it. Your caregiver notification is cancelled immediately.

Just reply SKIP to any reminder β€” and optionally add a brief reason, like SKIP sick or SKIP dr-advised. Your dose is logged as intentionally skipped, no caregiver alert is triggered, and your streak is preserved. You can talk to your doctor or pharmacist about any specific questions around skipping doses.

Reply PAUSE followed by your return date β€” for example, PAUSE until June 15 β€” and all your reminders will be paused until that date. Your schedule resumes automatically when you get back. If you come back early, just reply RESUME and your reminders restart right away.

Every time you confirm a dose on time, your streak grows by one day. We track how many consecutive days you’ve confirmed all your medications. At 7 days, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, and one full year, we send you a special celebration message. Streaks are a powerful motivator β€” research shows that visible progress is one of the most effective tools for building long-term healthy habits.

Yes. Reply REPORT to any It’s Pill Time message to receive a 7-day adherence summary right in your text thread. For a full 30-day or 90-day report, log in to your account at itspilltime.com or reply REPORT and ask for the full history. Many subscribers find it helpful to bring this record to their doctor appointments.

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§ FOR FAMILY CAREGIVERS

Can I set this up on behalf of a family member?

Yes β€” and this is one of the most common ways people use It’s Pill Time. You can sign up on behalf of a parent, grandparent, spouse, or anyone you’re caring for. During sign-up, you enter their phone number, their medications, and their preferred reminder times. They will receive the texts, and you can be added as their caregiver contact to receive alerts and daily summaries.

As a caregiver, you receive:

β†’Β  A daily summary confirming whether your loved one took their medications on time

β†’Β  An immediate alert if they don’t respond to three consecutive reminders

β†’Β  A 7-day adherence report when you text REPORT

You won’t receive every single confirmation text β€” just the daily digest and alerts when something needs attention. We designed this so caregivers get peace of mind without being overwhelmed.

When you receive a caregiver alert, you can:

β†’Β  Call or check on your loved one directly

β†’Β  Reply ACK to let us know you’re handling it β€” this pauses further caregiver alerts for the rest of that day

β†’Β  Reply STOP if you’d like to stop receiving caregiver alerts for that person

If your loved one is fine and did take their medications, they can reply YES at any point to log the dose and cancel the alert automatically.

Yes. If you’re managing medications for more than one person β€” a parent and a grandparent, for example β€” your number can be listed as the caregiver contact for multiple subscribers. You’ll receive separate alerts and summaries for each person, clearly labeled with their name.

Yes. On the Family Plan and B2B plans, multiple caregiver contacts can be added for a single patient. This is especially useful for sibling groups managing a parent’s care β€” everyone stays in the loop automatically without coordinating daily phone calls.

This is exactly the situation It’s Pill Time is built for. If your loved one doesn’t respond to their reminder, we send two follow-up messages over the next 45 minutes. If there is still no response, you receive an automatic alert. You’ll know within 45 minutes β€” not hours β€” that something may be wrong.

Many subscribers who initially didn’t respond consistently become much more reliable after a few weeks of using the platform, because the routine becomes familiar and the follow-ups feel supportive rather than pushy.

πŸ₯ FOR HEALTHCARE ORGANIZATIONS

What types of healthcare organizations use It's Pill Time?

It’s Pill Time works with a wide range of healthcare organizations, including:

β†’Β  Primary care and specialty clinics

β†’Β  Senior care and assisted living facilities

β†’Β  Home health agencies

β†’Β  Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs)

β†’Β  Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs)

β†’Β  Hospital networks and health systems

β†’Β  Pharmacy groups

If your organization manages patients who take daily medications, we can help.

Yes. It’s Pill Time provides a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with every healthcare organization contract. Our platform does not store Protected Health Information (PHI) within message content, nor do we ask for any. All patient data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Role-based access controls and audit-trail logging are in place for all B2B accounts.

For healthcare organizations with specific compliance questions, please contact us at info@itspilltime.com and we’ll schedule a compliance review call.

Enrollment is simple and fast. You provide us with your patient list β€” first name and phone number β€” and we configure each patient’s reminder schedule based on the medication information you provide. Each patient receives an opt-in text message. They reply YES to enroll. Reminders begin the next morning.

For organizations with 100+ patients, a dedicated onboarding manager handles all setup. You’re typically fully live within one week of signing your contract.

Yes β€” and we handle this. Every patient receives an enrollment text explaining what It’s Pill Time is and asking them to reply YES to opt in. No messages are sent until explicit consent is given. Patients can opt out at any time by replying STOP, and their opt-out is honored immediately and automatically.

Before enrolling patients, your organization must confirm that it has the authority to share patient contact information with It’s Pill Time under your existing HIPAA compliance framework. This is covered in the BAA.

Your provider dashboard gives you real-time visibility into your entire enrolled patient panel, including:

β†’Β  Daily adherence status for every patient (confirmed, late, missed, skipped)

β†’Β  Current streak for each patient

β†’Β  7-day and 30-day adherence trends

β†’Β  Patients flagged below 60% adherence for care team follow-up

β†’Β  All caregiver alerts sent and their status

β†’Β  Population-level adherence rate vs. national benchmarks

Every Monday, a weekly population summary is also sent directly to your admin email.

The free pilot allows qualifying healthcare organizations to enroll 25–50 patients at no cost, with no contract and no payment required. You get full access to the provider dashboard, complete onboarding support, a signed BAA, and real-time adherence data for 30 days. At the end of the pilot, you decide whether to continue β€” with actual data, not assumptions.

To apply for a pilot, visit itspilltime.com/partner or email info@itspilltime.com.

For most organizations, from contract signing to fully live patients takes 5–7 days:

Day 1: Contract and BAA signed, dashboard access provided

Days 2–3: Patient list submitted, schedules configured

Day 4: 30-minute staff training call (recorded for future reference)

Day 5: Patient enrollment texts go out, reminders begin

Day 7: Full dashboard live with real-time data

Organizations enrolling 100+ patients receive a dedicated onboarding manager.

πŸ”’ PRIVACY, SECURITY & HIPAA

Is my information private?

Yes. We take your privacy seriously. We collect only what we need to send your reminders β€” your name, phone number, medication names, and reminder schedule. We do not sell your data to advertisers, marketers, or third parties. We do not share your information with anyone except the caregiver contact you specifically designate.

For the full details, please read our Privacy Policy at https://itspilltime.com/privacy-policy.

No. Absolutely not. Your health information and contact details are used only to deliver your medication reminders. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, pharmaceutical companies, or any third party for commercial purposes. It’s Pill Time products are ad-free.

Your data is protected through multiple layers of security:

β†’Β  All data is encrypted in transit (SSL/TLS) and at rest

β†’Β  Role-based access controls limit who can see your information

β†’Β  Audit-trail logging records all access and changes

β†’Β  We use industry-standard SMS carrier infrastructure with 10DLC registration for compliant message delivery

β†’Β  Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never stored on our systems.

Yes β€” at any time, for any reason. Reply STOP to any It’s Pill Time text message and all messages will stop immediately and permanently. This is a legal requirement that we honor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No further messages will be sent after you reply STOP. You can opt back in at any time by replying START or by contacting us at info@itspilltime.com.

Yes. For healthcare organization clients, It’s Pill Time provides a signed HIPAA Business Associate Agreement (BAA) before any patient data is shared. Our platform does not include Protected Health Information (PHI) within SMS message content β€” reminders reference medication names only, not diagnoses or clinical records. Patient data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with role-based access and full audit logging.

If your organization has specific HIPAA compliance requirements or needs to include our BAA in a vendor security review, please contact info@itspilltime.com.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) is a federal law that governs how businesses can send automated text messages. It’s Pill Time is fully TCPA-compliant:

β†’Β  We only send messages to people who have given explicit written consent

β†’Β  Every message includes opt-out instructions

β†’Β  STOP opt-outs are honored automatically, immediately, and around the clock

β†’Β  We maintain documented consent records for every subscriber

β†’Β  Our SMS campaigns are registered with carriers through the 10DLC system

You can learn more about our compliance practices at itspilltime.com/privacy-policy.
